Task Environment Forces

The main forces in the task environment affecting The Fairmont would be customers and competitors.  With competitors, managers will always have to be aware of what competitors are doing/offering to get more customers away from other luxury hotels such as The Fairmont.  Competitors not only steal current customers, but they also can create new ways of enticing new customers away from staying at a Fairmont hotel or resort.  The luxury hotel and resort industry is rapidly growing, with already many viable competitors in the hotel industry.  The Fairmont would be in a lot of trouble without the continual thinking or strategizing of managers to help bring customers to their hotels and resorts.  Because of the large number of competitors, customers also affect the task environment.  Customers staying at their hotels or reviews from customers would force The Fairmont to develop new ways to introduce their business to potential customers, while at the same time keep current customers happy and coming back.  This type of competition could and would create better prices for customers at The Fairmont, as a way of keeping customers coming back.

An example of positive change is reported in this article, http://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20120510006056/en/Fairmont-Hotels-Resorts-Chase-Announce-Luxury-Rewards.  Business Wire reports that The Fairmont now has its very own credit card.  This card with the ability to provide customers with an added luxury experience, is sure to attract new customers and keep current ones.
